At Level 18, you’ll be introduced to Challenge Levels! You'll know it's a Challenge Level by the prominent "VS" icon that appears before you begin the level.
Challenge levels add a fun twist to regular gameplay by matching you against a woodland opponent. You’ll take turns spelling the best words you can from the available letter cards. When the level ends, the player with the highest score wins.
Your opponents are characters from Wordworth's forest, and not real players.
As you begin each new location, Challenge Levels appear at every fifth game.
You’ll know you’re entering a Challenge Level, when an announcement screen appears, showing you the "VS" icon, and introducing your opponent before the match begins.

In the Level Map, Challenge Levels are indicated by the "VS." emblem:
Gameplay is simple. You and your opponent take turns playing the best word you can find using the available letter cards on the board.
As you form a word, the points displayed in your Letter Tray show how many points that specific word is worth. While the word is still in the Letter Tray, you'll see what your overall score will be if you play that word.
For example, in the case below, you can see the increase in points when an “S” is added to turn “REGULAR” into “REGULARS.”
Aside from taking turns, gameplay remains the same. You can use boosters, collect Lost Words, make progress toward Daily Goals, and even find the Daily Word during the match.
However, you won’t advance to the next level unless you win.
If you lose to your opponent, you’ll have the option to spend Coins or watch a Reward Video to receive additional cards. If you choose not to continue, you’ll need to replay the level—losing any Lost Words found during that round, as well as one Heart.
To earn stars in a Challenge Level, you'll receive 1 star for beating the opponent, 2 stars for beating them by 50 points, and 3 stars for beating them by 100 or more points.
